You can participate in municipal decision-making as a trusted person and in many other ways.

Through the municipality's Whistleblow reporting channel, municipal employees, municipal residents and external stakeholders can report activities contrary to the public interest or serious suspicions of abuse in the municipality's operations in accordance with the so-called Whistleblower Protection Act.

In participatory budgeting, a separate allocation is reserved in the municipal budget for projects proposed by the residents. The practice in Jämijärvi has been that residents can propose various projects or improvements at the turn of the year, from which the municipal government selects feasible proposals for the residents to vote on.

A municipal member can submit a municipal initiative. The initiative must be made in writing and submitted to the municipality either by email or in paper form to the municipal office.
The initiative can be free in content and format. The initiative must state the title of the initiative and what is proposed in the initiative. The initiative can be specified with a map, cost estimate or images. The initiative must also include the contact information of the initiator. If necessary, the initiator can be asked for additional information regarding the initiative.
