The foundation of lifelong learning

High-quality early childhood education is the first step on a child's learning path and lays the foundation for lifelong learning. Early childhood education promotes educational equality. However, our primary goal is to support the child's holistic growth, development, learning and well-being, strengthen the child's and family's participation and support caregivers in their educational task. We see the whole family as our customer, not just the child.

Our activities are systematic and goal-oriented, pedagogically focused and emphasize full-time pedagogy: every moment of everyday life is important. We operate in a positive, encouraging, communal and confidential atmosphere. The staff is trained and committed to their work. With us, every child and adult is allowed to be exactly who they are, as their own valuable self. With us, children and families are happy!

Early childhood education is implemented as a kindergarten-style service. Pääsky daycare operates in two locations.: at the Pääsky kindergarten (Kotimäentie 11) operating in connection with the Pääsky school center and at the reopened old kindergarten, Pikku-Pääsky (Pääskyntie 6).

The director of early childhood education in the municipality of Jämijärvi is responsible for early childhood education, from whom you can obtain further information about early childhood education places and early childhood education activities. A dissatisfied customer can contact the director of early childhood education. The municipality also has a special early childhood education teacher working part-time. Cooperation is carried out with basic education and various actors.

Jämijärvi early childhood education focuses on the values of early childhood education: the best interests of the child and family, the rights of the child, inclusion and child-centeredness, equality and respect for diversity. Play, nature and movement are key focuses in our early childhood education activities. Pedagogical guidelines consist of outdoor learning, nature pedagogy and animals, and a sustainable and well-being-supporting lifestyle.

Jämijärvi's special feature, animals in early childhood education, bring new knowledge and skills, strengthen calmness, concentration, empathy and responsibility, promote interaction, emotional skills and inclusion, and bring joy, experiences and thrills, even self-transcendence - for both children and adults.

Every month during the daycare period, a different animal species visits the daycare center, which is introduced in many different ways. The animals can be touched, fed, held and learned about the needs of the species. Any allergies and fears are carefully considered, as is hygiene. The topic is also integrated into other activities during the month, for example through manual skills, music, games and movement.

The Jämijärvi municipal strategy is reflected in early childhood education, especially in supporting well-being, inclusion, an active, happy and sustainable lifestyle, strengthening community spirit and providing high-quality early childhood education services. Jämijärvi makes the municipality a good place for the whole family to live, be and experience.

Preschool education is free of charge, while supplementary early childhood education is subject to a fee. The electronic system Daisy was introduced in early childhood education in August 2025. Daisy includes two different channels: a daily affairs channel for guardians DaisyFamily (browser-based app) and official service channel eDaisy (browser only).

Applications for early childhood education, declaration of income information and notifications of changes (e.g. family size, workplace, income information, hourly rate) are made through eDaisy, which is logged in with strong authentication.

DaisyFamily handles, among other things, managing basic information about the child and guardian, reporting care times and absences, communication and information, booking discussion times, and filling out the child's early childhood education plan. Care times are booked by Tuesday-Wednesday night of the previous week for the following week, and shift care times two weeks in advance.

The monthly fee for early childhood education is based on the Early Childhood Education Customer Fee Act (1503/2016), which provides for fees charged for daycare provided by municipalities.
