Waste management in Jämijärvi
According to the Waste Act, all operators must strive to reduce the amount and harmfulness of waste generated. However, if waste is generated, the waste holder must primarily prepare the waste for reuse or, secondarily, recycle it.
Municipalities are responsible for receiving and processing municipal waste and hazardous waste generated in residential areas. Companies are responsible for collecting and processing the waste they produce.
The technical board acts as the waste management authority of the municipality of Jämijärvi, and the environmental and health board of the city of Kankaanpää acts as the supervisory authority.
The Eko-point between K-Market and the library and the municipal warehouse have camera surveillance. Camera surveillance is used to address misuse of collection points. For misuse of waste containers, a fee of €100 + VAT 25,5%, as well as possible cleaning costs, will be charged.
In Jämijärvi residential properties is property-specific mixed waste management. In property-specific waste management, the property owner/occupier enters into a contract directly with a waste transporter, who delivers the waste to the landfill and collects fees directly from the properties.

The customer fills out and signs an agreement form at the municipal office. The agreement is valid until further notice. Both parties have the right to terminate the agreement with one (1) month's notice. The annual fee is invoiced once a year.
After signing the contract, the customer will be given one key that can be used for mixed waste bins at all collection points. If the key is lost, a fee of €10 will be charged for a new key.

The basic waste management fee (formerly the eco-fee) is a public law and enforceable waste fee decided by the waste management authority, which is based on the Waste Act (Jätel 646/2011). The basic waste management fee is a fixed basic fee per dwelling in accordance with Section 78 of the Waste Act, which is collected from all habitable dwellings and holiday homes and is sent to to the property owner once a year, regardless of the amount of waste generated.
The basic waste management fee covers the costs incurred by the municipality for waste advice provided for in section 93, subsection 1 of the Waste Act, for maintaining the register provided for in section 143 and for other similar tasks related to the organisation of waste management. Services covered by the fee include eco-points, hazardous waste collection and waste advice and information. The municipality of Jämijärvi organises the above-mentioned services itself, so the collected basic waste management fee is paid to the municipality.
Amount of the basic waste management fee
The basic waste management fee is determined to be payable based on the amounts received from the tax authority. according to property tax data as of the first day of January in each contribution year.
The payment does not take into account whether the same owner has multiple residential buildings in the same yard or whether the residential building is in use or empty.
A small amount of waste generated, transporting waste from a holiday home to a permanent home, or disposing of waste in violation of waste management regulations, for example by burning, the property owner's age, health, poverty or other social reasons are not grounds for not charging the basic fee.
At its meeting on December 13, 2021, the Jämijärvi Municipal Council approved that the basic waste management fee will be charged based on the fee determination criteria below.

Reminders and corrections to the basic waste management fee
If the property is not habitable, the property owner has the right to make an electronic or written request for rectification. Within 14 days of receiving the invoice. Either an independent expert's statement on the condition of the building or a condition report supplemented with photographs must be submitted for uninhabitability.. By decision of the waste management authority, the basic fee may be reduced for a fixed period or not collected at all.

Waste reception
Paper, glass, metal and cardboard waste must be delivered sorted to Rinki eco-points. The eco-points also have collection containers for batteries.

Only plastic packaging of products may be placed in the plastic packaging collection container. The packaging must be empty and must be cleaned by rinsing or wiping if necessary. If the product cannot be cleaned using these methods, it should be placed in mixed waste (energy fraction). Caps, lids and similar items must be removed from the packaging before being placed for collection. Different types of jars and packaging must not be placed inside each other.
For example, you can put in the collection:
- plastic food packaging (yogurt jars, butter containers, cold cuts, cheese and ready-made food packaging)
- detergent, shampoo and soap packaging
- plastic bottles, canisters and jars
- plastic bags, pouches and wrappers
- tubes, pipes, EPS foam packaging and the like
Note! Packaging made of PVC plastic may not be collected. PVC plastic can be identified by a sign with the number 3 inside a triangle. PVC plastic hinders recycling. Hard plastic products, such as buckets, freezer containers, children's toys, etc., may also not be collected.
The municipality organizes hazardous waste collection approximately once a year, which is announced in local newspapers, the municipal bulletin, and on the municipality's website.
Unnecessary and expired medicines can be delivered to a pharmacy.
Small amounts of scrap metal can be delivered free of charge to the metal collection platform located in the municipal storage area (address: Puhdistamontie 16, open weekdays 8 am–17 pm, destination on Google Maps).
Disused electrical and electronic equipment can be delivered free of charge to the SER collection container located in the municipal storage area (address: Puhdistamontie 16, open weekdays 8 am–17 pm, destination on Google Maps).

The Kooninkeita waste station in Kankaanpää accepts private individuals' mixed municipal waste, hazardous waste, wood, paper, cardboard, metal, glass and window glass.
